Evil Continues to Exist and It’s Going to Get Worse

There is no greater evidence that evil exists in the world today than the horrific incidents that happened near Fort Worth, Texas and in New York this past weekend.

God’s word tells us that this will happen and will even continue to get worse.

2 Timothy 3: 1-7 says this:

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

So with the knowledge that evil will continue to get worse, how should we Christian’s react and even more importantly how should we be proactive?

Unfortunately, many take the stance that God will protect us when we are in our church buildings. Others are reluctant or even refuse to put even minimal security measures in place.

Thankfully that wasn’t the case at West Freeway Church of Christ near Fort Worth.

They were trained for the worst and the worst, pure evil showed up on Sunday.

In just 6 seconds, 3 lives were taken, but there was the potential for up to 240 more lives that could have been lost had Jack Wilson, a reluctant new American hero not have been prepared for the evil that approached.
Wilson said, “I just want to thank all who have sent their prayers and comments on the events of today. The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church.”

Then there is this report from CBN News:

What should have been a joyous holiday occasion turned into tragedy for some Hasidic Jews gathered for a Hanukkah dinner. They were at the home of their rabbi when a man entered wielding a machete.

“He took out his knife from a holder and started hitting people back and forth. He didn’t say anything. He went into the dining room and hit a few people there and then he went to the kitchen and hit one guy there and then he came back to the dining room,” witness Joseph Gluck explained.

To not be prepared for the evil that is guaranteed in the bible is just plain irresponsible.

I will finish out with more scripture of a long list of evil that the Apostle Paul warned the church in Rome about.

Roman’s 1: 24-32 tells us this:

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Prepare yourself and others for what evil situations that may present themselves. Prayer most certainly is the first step in this preparation, but I’m reminded that faith without works is dead.

Stuart Varney Opinion Piece on Trump and National Day of Prayer

We’ve made a conscious decision to not post as much about politics as we have in the past. The nation is more politically divided than any time in recent memory and maybe in the entire history of our great nation.

President Trump is one of if not the biggest topics when it comes to that division. It seems that people either love him or hate him and there’s not much in between the two.

We consider ourselves Christian Conservatives, so it shouldn’t be a surprise,  that we are supporters of the President. Is he perfect? Who is? Does he say and do things that we wish he didn’t? Absolutely!!!

All that said, many people would laugh when the topic of President Trump and Christian values are used in the same sentence. That’s exactly why we love the opinion piece from Stuart Varney that is below.

When laughing off the President’s faith, let us remind you of the scripture in John 8 that says:

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Stuart Varney: Trump doesn’t wear his religion on his sleeve, National Day of Prayer ceremony was a revelation

Thursday morning, President Trump appeared in the Rose Garden for the National Day of Prayer.  It was anything but a “normal” religious event. It wasn’t a somber, restrained affair. It was a joyous call for unity, at a time when unity is vitally needed. It was a very different spiritual occasion.

For me the “highlight,” if I may call it that, was the appearance of Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein. The president called him to the podium and he told the story of the Poway synagogue shooting where he had faced the killer.

He said, “you need to stand tall, to stand fast, and to do what it takes to change the world.” No pieties there: reality! None of this “our thoughts and prayers are with you.” That’s a platitude. Stand up. Face down hate. That’s what the rabbi said. That struck a chord: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, and Hindus: all in the audience, and all understood the importance of what Rabbi Goldstein had said.

We also discovered that this president begins all cabinet meetings with a prayer. We didn’t know that. We’d never been told. Mr. Trump clearly doesn’t wear his religion on his sleeve. I’m not going to make a big deal out of this but we saw a side of the president that most of us didn’t know.

And this is the side of the president the media does not show.

What a shame: the prayer event was extraordinary. And timely, following the slaughter of Muslims in New Zealand, Christians in Sri Lanka, Jews in Pittsburgh and Poway. A call to spiritual unity that was exactly what was needed, and that’s exactly what President Trump delivered.

National Day of Prayer from Ed Boston Ministries

Pastor Ed and Amy Boston shared a National Day of Prayer podcast today. Click here to listen.

The theme for the 2019 National Day of Prayer on May 2, 2019, is Love One Another. The theme comes from the words of Jesus in John 13:34, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
Our hope is that individuals, churches, and spiritual leaders in America, will humble ourselves and unify in prevailing prayer for the next great move of God in America. We can come together in clear agreement that this is our greatest need. We can become a visible union, standing together in prayer. We can pray more than ever before, and practice extraordinary prayer for the next great move of God in America that will catapult the message of the gospel nationally and internationally.

Continued Prayers Needed for Alex Trebek

Pray: Alex Trebek Experiencing ‘Deep Sadness’ Amid Cancer Treatment

It’s been almost two months since “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek announced his diagnosis with stage-four pancreatic cancer.

In a YouTube video posted in early March, Trebek noted that “normally the prognosis is not very encouraging,” but vowed to fight the disease “with the love of support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers … .”

Despite his determination and positive attitude, however, the 78-year-old game show icon revealed Wednesday the battle has taken an unexpected emotional toll.

Speaking to “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts, Trebek explained that while his treatment is going as well as possible at this point, he feels the need to be candid with fans about his additional struggle with depression.

Prayers For Alex Trebek On His Diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the host of Jeopardy, Alex Trebek who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. That topic is very close to us here, as Pastor Ed Boston’s father passed away 10 years ago after getting the same diagnosis.

Below is the announcement along with the YouTube video that Alex released about his diagnosis and keeping the faith.

From TrevorDecker.com:

Alex Trebek, the longtime host of the popular game show “Jeopardy” has revealed that he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He made the announcement in a video on Wednesday. The television icon vows to fight the low survival rate of the diagnosis and also says he will continue to work and host “Jeopardy”

“Hi everyone, I have some news to share with all of you and it’s in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy! fan base. I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information. Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you.”
