Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Christian Baker

Supreme Court sides with Colorado baker who refused to make wedding cake for same-sex couple

The Supreme Court ruled Monday in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, in one of the most closely watched cases of the term.

In a 7-2 decision, the justices set aside a Colorado court ruling against the baker — while stopping short of deciding the broader issue of whether a business can refuse to serve gay and lesbian people. The opinion was penned by Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is often the swing justice in tight cases.

The narrow ruling here focused on what the court described as anti-religious bias on the Colorado Civil Rights Commission when it ruled against baker Jack Phillips.

“The Commission’s hostility was inconsistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee that our laws be applied in a manner that is neutral toward religion,” Kennedy wrote in his majority opinion.

Statement On The Move of the United States Embassy to Jerusalem

Today is an amazing day in history. It is beyond wonderful for God, for Israel, for the United States, and for the world.

Today May 14th, 2018, exactly 70 years after modern-day Israel was once again recognized as a nation, the United States has moved our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

During his campaign, US President Donald Trump said that this move would be happening, and as he has on numerous issues, the President has made good on his promise. Twelve other presidents have had the opportunity to do this, and no one else followed through.

Nearly standing alone, and receiving criticism from around the world, including many of our allies, we have Done The Right Thing when it comes to this issue.

God’s word tells us in Genesis chapter 12 starting verse 1,   “The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

God was founding Israel as a nation, and later in 2 Samuel Chapter 5 -God anoints David as King and David choose Jerusalem as the location to lead the nation from.

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.’”

When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.

David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron, he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem, he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

Pastor John Hagee said this at the official ceremony in Jerusalem:

“Jerusalem is the city of God, Jerusalem is the heartbeat of Israel, Jerusalem is where Abraham placed his son on the altar,” he continued. “Jerusalem is where Messiah will come and establish a kingdom that will never end.”

Yes today, Israel and the United States stand arm-in-arm as we should. I’m proud to be a Christian, an American, and a brother to God’s Chosen People.

May this union last until the return of Christ our Savior and bless both Israel and the United States for what happened today!

Amazing Story Told By President on the National Day of Prayer

Below is an amazing story about the power of prayer that was told by President Donald Trump during his remarks at the Rose Garden during his remarks on the National Day of Prayer.

To read the entire transcript of his remarks, go here.

Here is the story:

We take this step because we know that, in solving the many, many problems and our great challenges, faith is more powerful than government, and nothing is more powerful than God.  (Applause.)

With us today is a living reminder of this truth.  His name is Jon Ponder, from Las Vegas, Nevada.  Where’s Jon?  Come on up here, Jon.  Get up here, Jon.  (Applause.)

Jon grew up without his father.  As he tells it, “My mother was strong, but she wasn’t able to keep us out of the gangs and off the streets.”  Right?  Jon was in and out of jail for years until, at age 38, he was arrested for bank robbery.  You don’t look like a bank robber, Jon.  (Laughter.)  He’s come a long way.

Jon soon ended up in federal prison, relegated to solitary confinement.  That’s where God found him.  Jon began to read the Bible and listen to Christian radio.  Right?  (Applause.)  Incredible.

One morning, at 2 a.m., he woke up to the voice of the great Billy Graham.  Reverend Graham’s words came through the airwaves, “Jesus wants to be Lord of your life.”  That night, Jon dedicated his life to Christ.  (Applause.)

He spent the rest of his time in prison praying, studying the Bible, and bringing the Lord to his fellow inmates.  The day after Jon’s release, a visitor knocked on his door.  It was the man who put him in jail, FBI Special Agent Richard Beasley — who is here.  Richard.  Come on up, Richard.  (Applause.)

“I want you to know that I’ve been praying for you very strongly,” he said, that, “God called me to the FBI in part because of you, Jon.”  The two are now lifelong friends.

Jon, do you like him?

PONDER:  I love him.

THE PRESIDENT:  You love him?  That’s nice.  (Applause.)  That’s beautiful.

Jon runs a ministry that has helped more than 2,000 former inmates rejoin society, and he’s the talk of the country.  The job Jon does is incredible.

Jon and Richard, you are a living testament to the power of prayer.  (Applause.)  Your story reminds us that prayer changes hearts and transforms lives.  It uplifts the soul, inspires action, and unites us all as one nation, under God.  So important.

National Day of Prayer 2018 – May 3rd

The Ed Boston Podcast Network will have an announcement soon to let you know how we will be participating.

Theme and Verse

National Day of Prayer Theme for 2018

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

Prayer brings people together. Prayer builds bridges between opposing persons and even political parties. Prayer reminds us that we are created in God’s image and He desires for us to represent Him everywhere we go. Prayer brings UNITY. In 2018, our theme will be Pray for America – UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Our hope is that individuals, churches, and spiritual leaders in America, will humble ourselves and unify in prevailing prayer for the next great move of God in America. We can come together in clear agreement that this is our greatest need. We can become a visible union, standing together in prayer. We can pray more than ever before, and practice extraordinary prayer for the next great move of God in America that will catapult the message of the gospel nationally and internationally.

Pray with us. Sponsor an event in your community. Become a volunteer. Order resources to help promote an event in your area. Support the National Day of Prayer financially. Together, we can mobilize unified public prayer for America!

“There is no great movement of God that has ever occurred that does not begin with the extraordinary prayer of God’s people.” Dr. Ronnie Floyd

Her Final Act – Singing Jesus Loves Me

A young woman who was shot and killed during an attack at a Tennessee Waffle House died singing a gospel song, the restaurant’s CEO said on Saturday. Walt Ehmer recounted during the funeral service for 21-year-old DeEbony Groves what one survivor told him happened during the morning of the attack.

‘We went and visited with the survivors, and they talked about the people who were in that restaurant before what happened happened, and specifically remembered your daughter,’ Ehmer told mourners. ‘And (they) spoke of your daughter and her friend, and said they were singing gospel songs. And everybody was singing and enjoying each other and she said, “The last thing I remember her saying was, singing Jesus Loves Me.”’

You Probably Haven’t Heard About This Student Walk-Out

There has been lots of press about student walk-outs recently, but I’m going to bet that you haven’t heard about this one, at least not from the mainstream media.

The information below is from FaithWire.com and you can click that link to read the full story about student groups across the nation that joined together to stand up for the rights of the unborn.

The walk-outs happened last week, but the topic is just too important not to share.

————————

Today, around 350 student groups from across the nation are joining together for a school walkout in the name of life. The event, sponsored by groups such as the Family Research Council, Oklahoma Teens for Life and the Massachusetts Family Institute, is calling for an end to abortion and the immediate defunding of abortive business Planned Parenthood.

“On Wednesday, April 11th, we will walk out of our classes for 17 minutes of silence and prayer. We will stand silently outside honoring the 10 children who will violently die during that time at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility,” the event’s website detailed. “We will rally and demand the end of Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer-funded empire. We will kneel and pray for the end of legal abortion in our nation.”

Pledge to Remember

Shalom, Ed,

No one who experiences Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) in Israel ever forgets it. And from sundown April 11 to sundown April 12, something very moving will happen.

At precisely 10 am, for two minutes, sirens sound across the country. All activity literally comes to a halt. People stop working, pedestrians pause, cars pull over to the side of the road, and Israel is united in silent remembrance of the six million people murdered during this terrible chapter in history.

This year, as Israel prepares to celebrate her 70th birthday, I am asking friends of Israel everywhere to show their solidarity with the Jewish state that rose from the ashes of the Holocaust by observing two minutes of silence to remember those who perished.

In the Bible, God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones – the people of Israel – “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land” (Ezekiel 37:14). For 70 years, the modern state of Israel has stood as fulfillment of this prophecy.

Thank you, my friend. Your moment of silence will remind the world that we must “never forget” the Holocaust – and that we must continue to support Israel, the sovereign Jewish state that for 70 years has been a refuge where Jewish people can live in safety.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Did Pope Francis Really Claim That Hell Doesn’t Exist?

I don’t know if Pope Francis claimed that Hell doesn’t exist or not. I do know that there are reports out there that say he did, and then there’s the denial from The Vatican. What I do know, is that the list of controversies this Pope and his teachings, thoughts, and beliefs are becoming more and more troubling all the time.

Let’s take a look at this latest controversy. The information comes from CNSNews.com.

In another interview with his longtime atheist friend, Eugenio Scalfari, Pope Francis claims that Hell does not exist and that condemned souls just “disappear.” This is a denial of the 2,000-year-old teaching of the Catholic Church about the reality of Hell and the eternal existence of the soul.

Scalfari says to the Pope, “Your Holiness, in our previous meeting you told me that our species will disappear in a certain moment and that God, still out of his creative force, will create new species. You have never spoken to me about the souls who died in sin and will go to hell to suffer it for eternity. You have however spoken to me of good souls, admitted to the contemplation of God. But what about bad souls? Where are they punished?”

Pope Francis says,  “They are not punished, those who repent obtain the forgiveness of God and enter the rank of souls who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot therefore be forgiven disappear. There is no hell, there is the disappearance of sinful souls.”

Now we see in a statement released on Mar. 29, after Scalfari’s report garnered worldwide attention, the Vatican said:

“The Holy Father Francis recently received the founder of the newspaper La Repubblica in a private meeting on the occasion of Easter, without however giving him any interviews. What is reported by the author in today’s article [in La Repubblica] is the result of his reconstruction, in which the textual words pronounced by the Pope are not quoted. No quotation of the aforementioned article must therefore be considered as a faithful transcription of the words of the Holy Father.”

Not being of the Catholic faith, it’s hard for me to sometimes realize what might upset those who are Catholic, but here is a short list of other things Pope Francis has said or done that hasn’t been greeted with open arms. This list comes from Lifesitenews.com.

– In July 2013 when a reporter asked why during his trip to Brazil he failed to speak of abortion and homosexuality despite the fact that the nation had just approved laws concerning these matters, the Pope replied: “The Church has already spoken quite clearly on this. It was unnecessary to return to it, just as I didn’t speak about cheating, lying, or other matters on which the Church has a clear teaching!”

– In an October 2013 interview with La Repubblica, Pope Francis was reported to have said: “The most serious of the evils that afflict the world these days are youth unemployment and the loneliness of the old…  the most urgent problem that the Church is facing.” In the same interview he said: “Proselytism is solemn nonsense, it makes no sense.” And also: “I believe in God, not in a Catholic God, there is no Catholic God, there is God and I believe in Jesus Christ, his incarnation.”

– The November 2013 Apostolic ExhortationEvangelii Gaudium was similar to the Repubblica interview in that the Pope focuses on “two great issues” that, he says, “will shape the future of humanity.” “These issues are first, the inclusion of the poor in society, and second, peace and social dialogue,” he wrote.

– In the 2014 book on Pope Francis, The Great Reformer, we learn from papal biographer Austin Ivereigh that Tony Palmer, an Anglican and long time friend of Pope Francis, spoke to then-Cardinal Bergoglio about whether he should become Catholic. Mr. Palmer described the then-Cardinal’s response as: “[Bergoglio] told me that we need to have bridge-builders. He counseled me not to take the step because it looked like I was choosing a side and I would cease to be a bridge-builder.”

– In January of 2015 came the “don’t breed like rabbits” in-flight interview on his return from Manila. Speaking of a woman he knows who was pregnant with her eighth child after having the first seven by C-section, he said he had “rebuked” her, saying, “But do you want to leave seven orphans? That is to tempt God!” “That is an irresponsibility,” he added, “God gives you methods to be responsible.” Pope Francis then said, “Some think that, excuse me if I use that word, that in order to be good Catholics we have to be like rabbits.” He added, “No. Responsible parenthood!”

– In March 2015 came another interview with Repubblica in which the Pope seemed to suggest no person could go to hell, but if they fully rejected God they would be annihilated. The article says: “What happens to that lost soul? Will it be punished? And how? The response of Francis is distinct and clear: there is no punishment, but the annihilation of that soul.  All the others will participate in the beatitude of living in the presence of the Father. The souls that are annihilated will not take part in that banquet; with the death of the body their journey is finished.”

– There was some controversy over Repubblica’s Scalfari interview. The Vatican would neither verify nor deny it in its specific parts, but nevertheless published it in the Vatican newspaper, and on the Vatican website. It was later deleted from the website, only to republish it again, then delete it again. Vatican watchers compared the most controversial part regarding the impossibility of people going to hell for all eternity to the statement from the Pope’s latest exhortation Amoris Laetitia, in which he said, “No one can be condemned for ever, because that is not the logic of the Gospel!”

– In a February 2016 interview with one of Italy’s most prominent dailies, Corriere Della Sera, Pope Francis praised Italy’s leading proponent of abortion, Emma Bonino, as one of the nation’s “forgotten greats,” comparing her to great historical figures such as Konrad Adenauer and Robert Schuman. The Pope praised her for her work with refugees from Africa. Bonino was famously arrested for illegal abortions and then became a politician who has led the fight for the legalization of abortion, euthanasia, homosexual “marriage,” legalization of recreational drugs, graphic sex education, and more.

– On February 18, 2016 on the papal plane returning from Mexico, the Pope commented on Donald Trump during the Presidential Primaries.  “A person who only thinks about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” he said, according to a transcript of his remarks. In the same press scrum, the Pope said he would not comment on Italy’s same-sex civil union legislation “because the pope is for everybody and he can’t insert himself in the specific internal politics of a country.”

It’s way past time to be taking a look at Pope Francis and the beliefs he espouses and expose them for what they are. I know that we will keep this topic and report and comment as needed.
