In an article titled: “Jesse Duplantis Claims Donations Can Speed the Return of Christ” there are several concerning things that came to light if these quotes are accurate and in-context.
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about wealthy pastors and ministries – even though that discussion could take place. I will say that I believe every pastor, evangelist, ministry leader should be paid a fair salary and allowed to increase their earnings through other mean like writing and selling books.
However, to hear the following quotes just makes me cringe:
He said, “I honestly believe this, that the reason why Jesus hadn’t come is because people aren’t giving the way God told them to give.”
Later, Duplantis went on to explain his belief that amassing his wealth would speed the return of Christ. He said, “I really believe this, if people would call this number and put this victory all over the world…the Father, he would say, ‘Jesus, go get ‘em.’ Because, you see, he wants to see us just as much as we want to see him.”
To that end, Duplantis concluded, “So I don’t have a problem giving. I don’t have a problem receiving. It doesn’t make any difference. I’ve just made up my mind. I want Jesus to come.” The implication being that donations to VICTORYthon would make that happen more quickly.
ChurchLeaders.com is where this information comes from, and as church leaders, we need to be held accountable while we do our call to hold others accountable. Unscriptural talk as attributed to Jesse Duplantis above has no place in our Christian endeavors.
The implication that God is waiting on man seems to be counter of the word in Matthew 24:36, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
